Rickey, Branch (Wesley)
(20 dic. 1881, Stockdale, Ohio, EE.UU.–9 dic. 1965, Columbia, Mo.).

Dirigente de béisbol estadounidense. Comenzó a jugar béisbol como profesional mientras estudiaba en la Wesleyan University de Ohio. En 1917 inició una larga asociación con los St. Louis Cardinals (presidente, 1917–19; entrenador, 1919–25; director técnico, 1925–42). En 1919 ideó el sistema de equipos subsidiarios para entrenar a los jugadores. Luego fue presidente y director técnico de los Brooklyn Dodgers (1943–50). Enfrentado a una fuerte resistencia, en 1945 rompió la prolongada barrera racial que existía en las grandes ligas del béisbol profesional al contratar al primer jugador afroamericano. Jackie Robinson jugó en equipos subsidiarios de los Dodgers durante dos años antes de ser ascendido a infielder de Brooklyn en 1947. Rickey se asoció después a los Pittsburgh Pirates (1950–59).
